Behind the dots

More than one source.
More context to explore.

Community reports

These reports come from people sharing their symptoms on HealthNarc. They are unverified observations.

Public health data

Weekly observations from CDC NNDSS and NYC Health describe illness activity across the city. They don't show differences between neighborhoods.

A local perspective

You can browse the New York City trends for COVID-19, flu, food poisoning, Legionnaires’ disease and more. With an account, you can also see individual report locations on the map. Availability and reporting periods vary by source.

Wastewater activity

CDC wastewater monitoring measures COVID-19, influenza A, and RSV activity at sampling sites. HealthNarc uses the counties served by each site to identify the relevant region. Wastewater measurements don't add map markers or case counts.

HealthNarc does not provide diagnoses or medical advice. Talk to a healthcare professional about health concerns.

Understanding the data

How GermSense works.

GermSense is a score from 0 to 10 for illness activity in an area. It cannot estimate your personal chance of infection.

Area activity

The score combines changes in reported illness activity with regional wastewater measurements where available.

Comparable reporting

Official trends compare complete published reporting periods.

Regional context

Wastewater measurements show virus activity across the areas served by sampling sites.

Sources publish on different schedules and may revise their observations. Reporting dates and availability appear alongside the public activity summary.
